Press Release, Wednesday, 6 June 2007

New online wine retailer launches with range of world’s healthiest wines

“A man is only as old as his arteries”                Live better, live longer

New online wine retailer www.lifestylewines.co.nz has launched with its first range of wines from France. The world’s healthiest wines from the Appellation Madiran in the south-west of France have been identified by researchers into heart disease as containing the highest concentrations of the polyphenol, procyanidin. This same region is associated with a population of increased longevity, the highest in Europe.

The GROUNDBREAKING research by Professor Roger Corder has established that;
  • Procyanidins lower blood pressure
  • Procyanidins reduce the risk of clot formation and blockage of the arteries
  • Procyanidins decrease atherosclerosis by reducing oxidation of LDL-cholesterol

Professor Corder’s research was published in the journal Nature in November 2006. He has subsequently published the book The Wine Diet.

Having seen publicity about the research Rob Lauder and Dr Erica Lauder investigated with an interest in the health message associated with these wines. The context is that heart disease is NZ’s biggest killer – more than cancer. 12,000 people are admitted to hospital each year with heart problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that heart disease will be responsible for 60% of deaths world-wide by 2015.

Finding only one Madiran wine available and believing the health message is very persuasive and factual, they have established a new wine online site that will focus on lifestyle wine choices.

While the health interest in this wine is proving very strong these are also very good French wines. At their most powerful they are tannic wines to accompany food. There are also the newer style Madiran wines that are softer and less tannic, but still have concentrated procyanidins.

Madiran is genuine heart-protecting wine and this is the real French Paradox. Professor Corder asserts that maintaining vascular health is the key to maintaining overall wellbeing. One small glass of these wines can provide more benefit than two bottles of most Australian wine, without the obvious danger of excessive alcohol consumption.

In early 2007 Corder’s book The Wine Diet was published. It is a natural and complete nutrition and lifestyle plan for adults. This is an informative, science based, sensible and wide ranging discussion about wines and other foods rich in procyanidins, coronary and general health, plus diet plans, recipes and more. The Wine Diet shows you how to adapt your diet and lifestyle to stay healthy and live longer. If you need to lose weight, this will happen naturally as part of Professor Corder's healthy eating plan.
