Robert Parker "These are unreal wines that are purely made, remarkably rich and so complete and promising that they cannot be ignored" This comment was made in reference to the wines of Vignobles Brumont. Our Madiran wines from Alain Brumont are La Tyre, Montus, Bouscasse, Bouscasse Vieilles Vignes and Torus. Steven Spurrier, DECANTER Consultant Editor & renowned taster “I tasted his (Alain Brumont - Montus & Bouscasse) 2006 wines from barrel before going to Bordeaux. My money is on the Madirans” Vincent Gasnier, Master Sommelier - on Madiran “This is top-class wine…..” “… the region is dynamic, and I think we will be seeing this wine more and more in restaurants and shops over the coming years.” La Revue du Vin de France says about Vignobles Laplace & Aydie "The wines made here offer very beautiful harmony between the sweetness of the fruit and the firmness of the tannins." Bob Campbell MW Chateau Bouscasse 2003 Vieilles Vignes, Madiran AOC Made from 100 per cent Tannat from 50-year-old vines, this is the best Madiran I’ve ever tasted. Robert Parker’s also a fan, having given the 2000 and 2001 vintages ratings of 93 points. High-density vineyards and low yields have produced a Madiran that more than lives up to its vieilles vignes rating. As well as intensity of flavour, the wine has an appealing sweetness from intense fruit flavours, and high alcohol that balances its bold, tannic structure. A big and complex wine with a seemingly infinite cellaring potential. - Gourmet Traveller Wine Oct 07 Chateau Bouscasse Madiran Vieilles Vignes, Madiran AOC "The world's best value reds" - 1 of 60 by Decanter.com, 2006 – Vintage 2003 Robert Parker: **** 93 /100 Wine Spectator – Vintage 2000 93 /100 Wine Spectator – Vintage 2001 Chateau Montus La Tyre 2003 Madiran 92/100 Wine Spectator Chateau Montus 2003, Madiran AOC 91/100 Wine Spectator Wine Spectator – no. 68 in “Top 100 of 2007” Domaine Berthoumieu Cuvee Charles de Batz, Madiran AOC "The world's best value reds" - 1 of 60 by Decanter.com, 2006 GOLD Medal + TANNAT Trophy + Great Value Award at the INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE 2004. This is a big wine with some serious finesse and its fair value at $44.50. …..Decant it well to show off its powerful ripe fruit or cellar it with confidence for a decade.” Nick Bryant, The Independent Financial Review, Aug 2007 Brumont 2004 Torus, Madiran AOC “After only two weeks of a glass of Madiran wine there will be positive effects on cardiovascular health” claims this wine’s importer. The Tannat grape variety is apparently high in procyanidins that reduce blood pressure, clotting and benefits cholesterol levels. It’s a quite intense but fresh and supple Madiran that’s more accessible than many others. Bright and focused red and black fruits with lingering blackcurrant feature in this appealing, modern style. I’d rather drink a glass of this than spend an hour in the gym. Bob Campbell MW, Gourmet Traveller Wine Oct 07 Cedrus AOC Cahors 2006 Bob Campbell review “Attractive full-bodied Malbec with juicy berry, plum and spice flavours. Big, gutsy red with firm yet sweet and ripe tannins. Intense wine with character. Best with a hearty steak." Chapelle Lenclos Madiran 2002 NZ Herald Viva (Sept09) says .....“A great wine with power and concentration in its spicy, charry, juicy blackberry palate whose tannins have mellowed with maturity.” Chateau Montus 2002, Madiran AOC Ever deeper, inkier in colour and the aroma is deep, dark, tarry and savory. Made from 100% Tannat, this is a powerful wine with concentrated, macerated red and black berry fruits with the liquorice richness that fruits like this exhibit. The fruit is so concentrated it cuts through the initial upfront tannins and although the wine is powerful, it is has a whimsical beauty. It's a big wine with sweet vanillin oak, black fruits, tar and powerful tannins in a beautifully balanced, full-bodied package and reminds me of something almost Australian with its rich, sweet-oaked chocolate and spice, its lush full-bodied texture and modern, clean winemaking. If I had tasted this wine blind I probably wouldn't have initially pick as coming from France! The Tannat vines are 25 years old and the wine aged on lees in oak (60% new, 40% one year old) for 12-14 months. I rate it five star quality. Sue Courtney – www.wineoftheweek.co.nz July 3rd 2007
