Robert Parker says that the wines of Chateau Bouscassé and Chateau Montus are international first class.
A premium estate in Alain Brumont's group Vignobles Brumont.
Ch Bouscasse is a typical Madiran wine, deeply red-black in colour. 2005 is discreet and delicate on the nose, expressing vanilla and black fruits. In the mouth the tannins are smooth and mellow in the Bouscasse style we expect. The wine is big with rich fruit and a solid structure, but also fresh and balanced. Well defined flavours of red plum, berry and spice. The finish with notes of mocha, violet and spice.
Enjoyable now but will only improve over the next 5-6 years. Should be decanted with a flourish to give it plenty of air.
Chateaux Bouscassé and Montus are defined by their different terroirs. Bouscasse is dominated by clay-based soils where as Montus features pebbles and stones. In stylistic terms, the wines of Bouscassé are muscular and powerful, whereas the wines of Montus are lush, big and ripe.
