GOLD - Concours General Agricole de Paris
One of six wines selected by Gourmet Traveller Wine as best Cahors - June/July 2010 issue
100% Malbec from vines on average 25-30 years old.
Vintage 2007 is even better than 2006 - the grapes were riper so the wine is more structured and the tannins rounder and more velvety.
Tender and fruity
Cahors AOC from the most desirable terrain. Medium+ body. Rich, concentrated and full of fruit and spice flavours. In typical Cahors style the wine is purple/crimson and virtually opaque. A big, expressive nose of black cherry, blackberries, blackcurrants, anise seed, with attractive nuances of tobacco, dried herbs and cedar. The mouth is rich, concentrated and full of sweet and sour red and black fruits and spice. A perfectly balanced wine with mouth-watering acidity and fine tannins.
Exceptionally good Cahors at this price.
Drinking now or cellar until 2017.
Ch Haut-Monplaisir tested ♥♥♥
healthy hearts in vintage 2005. We stock it because it's an excellent Cahors.
Classified as “tender and fruity”, wine lovers appreciate Cahors such as these. They pair well with white meat, roast poultry, grilled meats and of course beef, lamb, rich casseroles and hard cheeses. Their light tannins don’t become harder when served with a mixed salad. Their vivacity allows them to pair well with French country style cuisine. They are suitable with vegetables such as tomatoes and egg plant and go well with fish casserole or fried strong flavoured fishes. As you can see they are very food friendly. Also very easy to drink without food.
Cathy and Daniel Fournié of Haut-Monplaisir farm 44.5 acres on what the locals call the third terrace of the valley floor. These terraces, or benches, are layered gravel deposits left by the river over the ages. There are three such terraces in the valley; the third is the highest, furthest from the
Lot river and the best by virtue of its well-drained soils.
Cathy and Daniel work with the dynamic Pascal Verhaeghe of Château du Cèdre (also wine maker of our Cedrus Cahors) whose vineyards grow on the second terrace. Pascal immediately saw the potential of Haut Monplaisir's site. Together Pascal and Daniel are responsible for the wines of Haut Monplaisir.
TERROIR: Grown on the third terrace of the valley floor on terraces of layered gravel deposits left by the river over the ages. The third and highest, furthest from the Lot river is the best by virtue of its well-drained soils.

VINIFICATION: Vinification in cement temperature controlled tanks (27-28°C). Full destemming. Crushing, pigeage and maceration of 25 to 30 days.
AGING: 18-20 months ageing period in cement tanks (10% in oak barrels). No filtration. Estate bottled.
